2 Hurt, Major Delays, After Turnpike Accident
WEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) -- Two people were hospitalized after a crash on the Florida Turnpike in West Miami-Dade.
The accident took place in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike at SW 8th Street/Tamiami Trail. According to FHP Sergeant Tom Pikul, the passenger side front tire on a white pick-up truck blew out which caused the driver to lose control and careen off the road into a drain inlet located in the grassy median between the Turnpike and SW 117th Avenue.
Two people were airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital. It's unclear if they were wearing their seatbelts.
Northbound traffic on the turnpike is backed up beyond Kendall Drive.
Drivers should avoid the area. Alternates include SW 107th Avenue and SW 117th Avenue.
