Turnpike Accident Snarls Traffic For Miles
MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) – The northbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike in Miramar were shutdown Tuesday morning as police investigated an accident involving a motorcyclist.
The accident, which happened just north of NW 57th Ave./Red Road, reportedly involved a law enforcement officer. Miramar police did not say which agency the person works for.
At around 7:30 a.m., an air rescue helicopter landed on the highway to take the injured person to the hospital.
The lane closure due to the accident investigation snarled traffic for miles at the height of the morning commute. All traffic was forced to exit the Turnpike at Red Road.
In addition to the lane closures, the ramp from Red Road to the Turnpike was also shutdown.
Around 8:30 a.m. the lanes were re-opened to traffic.
