Trouble In The Air Causing Flying Fear For Many Travelers
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – United States airliners have been cleared for takeoff to resume service to Israel Thursday after a two day hiatus.
The Federal Aviation Administration banned US airliners from flying to Tel Aviv after fighting got too close and a Hamas rocket landed near the Ben Gurion Airport—Israel's main international airport.
Louis Reinstein and his family, from Plantation, have been watching closely as they're scheduled to fly to Israel Thursday—and they're ready to go.
"If we didn't feel safe we wouldn't be going there," said Adi Reinstein.
She and Louis made sure their two sons are well aware of what's going on there, even showing them video. The boys know if they hear sirens, they've got to get to a shelter fast and always pay close attention. "[You have to] listen to them," said six-year-old Daniel, "Don't run away so you can be safe, no one takes you."
Many fliers at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport are a bit jittery before takeoff.
Liz Harrington and her family are heading to DC. They've been watching the reports as investigators look into the Malaysian Air flight that was likely shot down over Ukraine, the crash in Taiwan during bad weather, and the latest crash Thursday morning in Mali where a flight with 116 people went down during stormy conditions.
"It makes you a little bit more nervous,' said Liz Harrington. "We're still going to take our flight but it does make you think about it."
Despite all the trouble in the air and in Israel, the Reinstein's feel secure about their decision to travel and believe others should too.
"This is about living life," said Louis Reinstein, "and teaching your kids the right thing to do, what's important and that's what we're going to do."
