Tropics Begin To Heat Up

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The tropics are heating up and becoming more active as we approach the peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season.
The CBS4 Weather team is tracking Tropical Storm Fiona, which at 5 a.m. on Friday was located about 1,240 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands and moving towards the west-northwest at 10 miles per hour.
Fiona is forecast to continue moving towards the west-northwest and weaken to a depression over the weekend. Fiona will likely move to the east or near Bermuda early to middle of next week. But by that time Fiona may just fizzle out and become an area of low pressure.
There are two other disturbances in the Eastern Atlantic.
A tropical wave about 500 miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands is becoming better organized and the National Hurricane Center says it has a medium potential of development over the next five days as it moves westward over the Tropical Atlantic ocean. Many models forecast this disturbance may head in the general direction of the Lesser Antilles.
Another tropical wave rolling off the coast of Africa has a low potential of development over the next five days.
