Tropical Storm Philippe Expected To Weaken
MIAMI (CBS4) – Just when forecasters thought Tropical Storm Philippe might be history, as it moved into an area unfavorable for growth, they have now found the storm to be stronger than first thought, with winds close to hurricane strength
At 5 pm. Saturday, Philippe was located 1070 miles ESE of Bermuda. Maximum sustained winds were 65 mph with some higher gusts.
The system was moving to the west-northwest at 9 mph.
Satellite photos showed the storm's winds to be higher than expected, but The National Hurricane Center said Philippe is still expected to continue to move to the northwest over the next couple of days as well as decrease in speed, and forecasters are still expecting the storm to continue weakening. Some data indicates Philippe could weaken to a low pressure system before making a turn toward the north and heading toward Canada.
There are currently no watches or warnings posted for this storm.
