Tropical Storm Philippe Could Become A Hurricane
MIAMI (CBS4) – Tropical Storm Philippe gained some strength Sunday as it continued it westward trek over the far eastern tropical Atlantic.
At 5 p.m., Philippe was located 500 miles west-southwest of the southernmost Cape Verde islands. Maximum sustained winds had increased from 45 mph to 60 mph with some higher gusts.
The system was moving to the west-northwest at 12 mph. The National Hurricane Center said Philippe is forecast to take a turn toward the northwest and slow down a bit on Monday when it could read hurricane status.
