Tropical Storm Nate Bringing Heavy Rain To Mexican Coast
MIAMI (CBS4) – A reconnaissance plane has found Tropical Storm Nate has gained strength, but remains nearly stationary in the Bay of Campeche, according to the National Hurricane Center.
As of 11 p.m., the center of the system was located 110 miles west of Campeche, Mexico with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph.
The government of Mexico has issued a tropical storm watch along the NE coast of the Yucatan Peninsula from Celestun to Progreso. A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Chilitepec, Mexico to Celestun, Mexico.
The National Hurricane Center said the storm is drifting toward the southeast near 1 mph with a slow turn to the north to northwest motion on Friday. Some strengthening is expected over the next 48 hours.
Nate could produce as much as 8 inches of rain over the Mexican states of Campeche, Tabasco, and southern Veracruz.
Nate could become a hurricane Friday or Saturday, according to the NHC.
