Leslie Races Toward Newfoundland
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Tropical Storm Leslie strengthened slightly as it continues to move towards Newfoundland.
At 11 p.m. Monday the center of the storm was about 350 miles south-southwest of Cape Race, Newfoundland. It had maximum sustained winds of 70 mph with higher gusts.
Leslie was moving north at 40 mph.
Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 230 miles from the center of circulation.
A Hurricane Watch is in effect for Newfoundland from Stones Cove to Charlottetown.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for southeastern Newfoundland from Indian Harbor to Triton.
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Indian Harbor, Newfoundland to Stones Cove and from Fogo Island, Newfoundland to Charlottetown.
On the forecast track, the center of Leslie will continue to move north-northwest over the next day or so. Leslie is forecast to move over eastern Newfoundland on Tuesday morning.
Leslie could produce up to four inches of rain across Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.
Swells from Leslie will continue to affect the U.S. East Coast from central Florida northward, the Canadian Maritimes and Bermuda. These swells could cause life-threatening surf and rip currents.
