Hurricane Leslie Slowly Drifting North
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Leslie is now a hurricane and continues to slowly make its way northward.
At 11 p.m. Wednesday, the center of Hurricane Leslie was about 445 miles south-southeast of Bermuda. It had maximum sustained winds of 75 mph with higher gusts. It was crawling to the north at just 2 mph.
While there are no watches or warnings in effect for this storm, people in Bermuda should closely monitor Leslie's progress.
Leslie is expected to move in a slow north-northwest direction, at times erratically, for the next day or so. The storm could become a Category 2 hurricane by Friday.
Swells generated by Leslie could affect portions of the northern Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda and the U.S. east coast from central Florida north. These swells could cause life-threatening surf and rip currents.
