Tropical Storm Kirk Gains Strength, Still Poses No Threat To Land
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Tropical Storm Kirk strengthened some while swirling away in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, but continues to pose no threat to land.
At 11 p.m. Wednesday, the center of the storm was about 1,085 miles east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands, or about 1,495 miles west-southwest of the Azores.
Kirk's maximum sustained winds remained at 60 miles per hour.
The storm was moving west-northwest at 9 miles per hour, though forecasters said the system should turn northwest by Thursday night, followed by a turn to the north-northwest on Friday.
Kirk is expected to strengthen some during the next 48 hours.
