Kirk Packing 100 MPH Winds, Now A Cat. 2 Hurricane
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Kirk is becoming stronger as it churns in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, but still poses no threat to land.
At 11:00 p.m. Thursday, the center of the storm was about 870 miles east southeast of Bermuda or about 1,495 miles west-southwest of the Azores.
Kirk's maximum sustained winds have increased to 100 miles per hour which makes it a category 2 hurricane.
The storm was moving northwest at 12 miles per hour. Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center say Kirk will take a turn to northwest and north through Friday and pick up speed.
Kirk is expected to strengthen over the 48 hours.
