Tropical Storm Katia Gains Strength In Eastern Atlantic
MIAMI (CBS4) – Tropical Storm Katia is gaining strength as it moves to the west over the eastern Atlantic.
At 11 p.m., Tropical Storm Katia was about 885 miles west of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands. The system's maximum sustained winds had increased to 60 mph as it moved to the west-northwest at 22 mph.
Currently there are no watches or warnings in effect associated with this storm.
Katia is forecast to continue its west-northwest trek over the next 48 hours as it gradually increases in speed and strength. The National Hurricane Center predicts it will be near hurricane intensity by late Wednesday or early Thursday.
