TS Gert Barrelling Toward Open Waters

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Tropical Storm Warnings for Bermuda were dropped after Tropical Storm Gert skirted the island Monday morning.

At 11 p.m. Monday, the center of the system was located about 250 miles northeast of Bermuda. The storm was headed north-northeast at about 18 miles per hour.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to 60 miles per hour and tropical storm force winds extend approximately 70 miles from the storm's center, primarily north and east of it.

The National Hurricane Center expects the storm to increase in speed over the next few days, with gradual weakening expected by Tuesday night and into Wednesday.
