MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Tropical Storm Gaston is maintaining its strength as it moves across the Atlantic.
At 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, the center of the system was about 1205 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands.
Gaston's maximum sustained winds are hovering at 70 mph with higher gusts. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles from the center.
Gaston is moving toward the northwest near 17 mph, and this general motion is expected to continue during the next couple of days.
Some weakening is possible during the next 48 hours.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
Meanwhile, we are keeping our eyes on a tropical wave near the Leeward Islands. It has a high chance of becoming a tropical disturbance within the next few days. Computer models show it could move near South Florida or the Bahamas by the weekend.
