T.S. Emily Dumping Rain On Puerto Rico
MIAMI (CBS4) – Puerto Rico is feeling the effects of Tropical Storm Emily as it moves across the country.
At 11 p.m. Tuesday, Emily was located 125 miles south of Ponce, Puerto Rico. The storm's maximum sustained winds were up to 50 miles per hour.
Emily is the fifth named storm of this year's hurricane season, and is moving to the west-northwest at 14 mph.
Tropical Storm warnings are in effect for the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, the islands of Vieques and Culebra, the Southeast Bahamas, Turks and Caicos and Haiti.
The U.S. Virgin Islands are under a Tropical Storm Watch.
The NHC said Haiti and the Dominican Republic will be impacted Tuesday evening into Wednesday.
Emily is expected to produce two to four inches of rain in the Northern Leeward Islands and Leeward Islands. Puerto Rico could see anywhere between four and six inches of rain. The Dominican Republic and Haiti could see isolated areas of up to ten inches of rain which could cause flash flooding and mud slides.
