MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Hurricane Danny, the first hurricane of the 2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season, continues to strengthen.
At 11 p.m., the center of the Category 1 storm was located about 970 miles east of the Windward Islands. Maximum sustained winds had sustained at 80 mph with higher gusts. Some additional strengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours, but a weakening trend is expected to begin after that and it's expected to be downgraded to a Tropical Storm once again.
Danny is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph. This general motion is expected to continue through early Saturday.
Danny is a very small hurricane. Hurricane-force winds only extend outward up to 10 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles.
Currently there are no watches or warning posted for this storm.
Since we've got a while to watch this one, it's a great reminder that we are entering what is historically the most active time of hurricane season between August 15th to October 15th.
