Tropical Storm Bret Heading Out Over Open Water
MIAMI (CBS4) – Tropical Storm Bret continues to weaken as it moves away from the Bahamas.
At 11 p.m., the second tropical storm of this year's hurricane season was about 320 miles south of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
Bret's maximum sustained winds were holding steady near 50 mph as it continued to move northeast at near 8 mph. The storm is expected to weaken come Wednesday.
Drier air is working its way into Bret's circulation and it is unlikely the storm will reach hurricane status.
South Florida is slightly ahead of schedule with Bret in the Atlantic. On average, the second named tropical storm occurs around August 1st.
