Tropical Storm Bret Meanders Off Florida Coast
MIAMI (CBS4) – Tropical Storm Bret formed about 200 miles northeast of Miami on Sunday afternoon, but while the island of Bermuda may have bad weather to worry about, Bret should not mean anything more to South Florida than an increased chance of rain.
At 11 p.m., when it announced Tropical Depression 2 had been upgraded, the National Hurricane Center said the storm's center was located Sunday evening about 95 miles northwest of Great Abaco Island. Its maximum sustained winds were 40 mph and it was drifting slowly southeast at 2 mph.
CBS4 meteorologist Craig Setzer said computer models are mainly forecasting a gradual and slow northward movement is forecast by mid-week but he stressed at this time that is not a certainty.
Setzer added that it also is not clear if the tropical system will have any direct impacts on South Florida.
