Tropical Storm Arlene Forms In Southern Gulf
MIAMI (CBS4) - The National Hurricane Center announced late Tuesday that the first storm of the 2011 hurricane season has formed.
Tropical Storm Arlene developed in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico just after 8 p.m.
As of 11 p.m. Tuesday, Arlene was positioned roughly 250 miles east-southeast of Tampico, Mexico with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.
Forecasters say the storm is not likely to hit the U.S., but extreme south Texas could get some rain from the system.
The Mexican Government issued tropical storm warnings for the northeastern coast of Mexico in the states of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and eastern San Luis Potosi.
Tropical Storm Arlene could produce heavy rain to the area, potentially triggering flooding and mudslides.
