Tropical Storm Andrea Moving Across Florida After Making Landfall
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Tropical Storm Andrea, the first named storm of the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season, made landfall early Thursday evening in the Tampa area.
The system came ashore 65 miles north-northwest of Cedar Key, Florida at 5:45 p.m.
At 11 p.m. TS Andrea was located 40 miles west of Jacksonville.
The storm's winds had increased to 65 miles per hour just before landfall, but weakened to 45 mph as it moved inland. The system is moving to the northeast at 15 miles per hour.
A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Flagler Beach to Cape Charles Light Virginia; Pamlico and Albemarle Sounds and Lower Chesapeake Bay South of New Point Comfort.
On this forecast track, the center of Andrea will move northeastward near the East Coast through Saturday. Little change in strength before the center reaches the coast.
