Watch Canceled As Alberto Meanders Up Coast
MIAMI (CBS4) – A Tropical Storm Watch along the South Carolina coast has been discontinued as Tropical Storm Alberto, the first tropical storm of 2012 season, meanders up the coastline.
Alberto is earliest tropical storm to form in a decade, but it's not proving to be much a threat, barely hanging on as a storm and not expected to strengthen.
At 11 p.m. Sunday, National Hurricane Center forecasters said Tropical Storm Alberto was located about 85 miles ENE mof St. Augustine. The system was moving to the south at 5 mph.
The storm's maximum sustained winds were holding at 40 mph.
The storm is expected to slow down and move very little through Monday. It is eventually expected to turn to the northeast where it will follow the coast offshore before it's expected to leave US waters later this week.
