Tropical Depression 18 Forms Off Honduras

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The government of Honduras has issued a Tropical Storm Watch from Punta Castilla east to the border with Nicaragua after Tropical Depression #18 formed Sunday afternoon in the western Caribbean.

At 5 p.m., the center of the storm was 105 miles from Cabo Gracias a Dios on the Honduran/Nicaraguan border. The system, which had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, was moving to the northwest at 12 mph. This general motion is expected to continue through Sunday night. On Monday, TD #18 is expected to take a turn to the northwest. The center of the system is expected to pass north of the northeastern coast of Honduras over the next couple of days.

Gradual strengthening is expected during the next day or so and it could be a tropical storm by Monday.
