Rain Bands Of T.S. Lee Dropping Heavy Rain Over Portions Of Gulf Coast
MIAMI (CBS4) - Newly formed Tropical Storm Lee continues to drift north towards the Louisiana Gulf Coast Friday evening.
At 11 p.m., Tropical Storm Lee was 160 miles west-southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River moving to the north at 5 miles per hour. Lee has sustained winds of 45 mph with some higher gusts.
Squall lines are beginning to impact the Louisiana coastline Friday evening and the system is expected to make landfall over the weekend somewhere in Louisiana.
Louisiana's governor has declared a state of emergency because of the threat of flash flooding.
The National Hurricane Center said the system will dump 10 to 15 inches of rain over southern areas of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama through Sunday and as much as 20 inches in some spots.
Tropical storm warnings were issued from Texas eastward to the Alabama/Florida border.
