MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — A former chief executive officer of a South Florida development company accused in a multi-million affordable housing fraud case has had his trial date set.

A federal judge set Aug. 24, 2016 as the trial date after defense attorneys for 69-year-old Lloyd Boggio said they needed more time to prepare for a trial.

Boggio is co-founder of Carlisle Development Group. He has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering charges.

Prosecutors say Boggio and others at Carlisle stole $36 million in federal housing subsidies by falsely inflating construction costs and taking kickbacks for Miami-area apartment developments intended for low-income people.

Others indicted in the case pleaded guilty and Boggio was scheduled last month to join them, but decided instead on a trial.
