Trayvon Martin's Mom, Brother To Attend FIU Memorial

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin, and her son Jahvaris Fulton are attended a South Florida memorial service Wednesday afternoon in Trayvon's memory.

A memorial was held in the Wolfe Auditorium in the Wolfe University Center at Florida International University's Biscayne Bay Campus, located at 151st Street and Biscayne Boulevard.

Jahvaris is a junior studying Information Technology at FIU.

Jahvaris will be joined by students from his World Religion class and his professor who wanted to end the semester with a show of support for the family. FIU President Mark Rosenberg and other community leaders are also expected to attend.

Trayvon, 17, of Miami Gardens was shot and killed Feb. 26th in Sanford, Florida.

Prosecutors say neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman fatally shot Martin in the chest during a confrontation.

Martin was unarmed but Zimmerman said he shot Martin in self-defense.

Zimmerman has been charged with second-degree murder but the lack of an arrest for more than 40 days after the shooting led to protests nationwide.
