MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) -- A blaze broke in the Miami Gardens trailer home of an 83-year-old man who lived with his five dogs.

"We were scared that the trailer was gonna explode or something," said a neighbor.

Chopper4 was over the scene around 6 a.m. were crews could be seen battling the blaze using a ladder truck near 19900 NW 37th Avenue.

On the ground, a neighbor described the terror it caused.

"I hear like noises like something was breaking and somebody saying, 'help help,'" said neighbor Christina Orellana.

She did not want to show her face but says she ran out of her home Thursday morning to sounds of  a man screaming. She thought they were coming from inside the house.

Instead she says she found her 83-year old neighbor outside, pleading for help to rescue his dogs.

"Trying to go inside to pick up the dogs because he had five dogs," said Orellana.

She says three puppies never made it out.

The home was still smoldering hours later.

Orellana said she alerted her neighbors since she was afraid the fire would spread.

"Everything went like really fast. It started slow then everything move through the whole trailer," said Orellana.

Neighbors said Jose Reyes lived in the trailer home.

They say he was transported to the hospital because of smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
