Tracking Poll: Romney Ahead Of Newt By 7
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – For the second time in as many days, a daily tracking poll from Public Policy Polling showed Mitt Romney maintaining his lead over his closest rival, Newt Gingrich.
According to the tracking poll, Romney leads Gingrich, 39 to 32 percent, followed by Rick Santorum at 14 percent and Ron Paul at 11 percent.
According to PPP, Romney and Santorum are down one percent from Saturday, while Gingrich remained steady.
Unlike a Quinnipiac University poll released Monday, in the PPP poll, Gingrich is winning evangelicals, 37-33 percent; tea partiers 40-33 percent; and amongst those who labeled themselves as "very conservative," 36-29 percent.
PPP found the problem for Gingrich compared to his performance in South Carolina is he's not winning his supporters by a large enough margin to completely overtake Romney.
Gingrich's problems are compounded with GOP voters who have already cast their ballots through either early voting or absentee ballots.
Romney leads amongst the early voters, 45-33 percent. According to PPP, that would force Gingrich to win by at least 6-7 points to win Florida.
