Toy Run Temporarily Shuts Down Highways
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - Drivers in Broward can expect delays Sunday as thousands of motorcyclists hit the road for the annual Christmas Toys in the Sun Run.
More than 30 thousand bikers are expected to take part in the run which starts at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek and heads south to Markham Park in Sunrise.
Interstate 95 southbound from Sample Road in Deerfield Beach to westbound Interstate 595 to the SW 136 Avenue exit in Davie will be closed to traffic until about 1:30 p.m.
The Broward Sheriff's Office said spectators will not be permitted to park their vehicles on any highway (including State Road 84) or stand on the highway. It is unlawful to stand or park on a limited access highway. BSO deputies and Florida Highway Patrol troopers will be strictly enforcing this due to the ongoing I-595 construction project in the interest of public safety.
Proceeds from the event go to the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood and donated toys are distributed to needy children in South Florida.
