Tours To Celebrate Black History In Key West This Weekend
KEY WEST (CBSMiami/AP) — Looking for something to do this weekend that is a little out of the ordinary? Why not head to the Florida Keys for a stroll through history.
Tourists and locals can take guided tours of a 167 year-old Key West cemetery.
The Saturday event is part of a national celebration of Black History Month.
The tours will lead guests past the gravesites of the island's notable African-American residents.
Guides will provide brief monologues of people like Sandy Cornish, who helped establish the community's first black church, and Thomas Romer, who served in the War of 1812.
The event is sponsored by the City of Key West and the Historic Florida Keys Foundation.
