Torrential Rains, Gusty Winds On The Way
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – South Florida's soggy conditions could get a little worse before they get any better.
A Tornado Watch is effect until 10 p.m. and a Flood Watch has been issued through Wednesday morning.
CBS4 meteorologist Jeff Berardelli said a line of strong to severe thunderstorms in the eastern Gulf of Mexico is racing east into the Keys. This line will eventually reach South Florida Tuesday evening. Along this line, Berardelli said we will see intense thunderstorms with wind gusts over 60 mph and a few tornadoes are possible.
In addition this line of storms will be accompanied by more torrential downpours. The ground is already saturated by several inches of rain in most areas over the past few days. With more heavy rain on the way flooding of many flood prone streets is likely.
This line is associated with a broad area of low pressure located in the Gulf of Mexico with copious tropical moisture. The low pressure will move northeast into central and southern Florida Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.
At the same time a strong fall cold front will dive south. This front will push the moisture out by midday Wednesday. Until then periods of heavy rain and severe storms are possible.
Behind the front, chilly autumn air will arrive with low temperatures dropping into the upper 50s by Thursday and Friday morning. Daytime highs will only be in the mid to upper 70s and sunshine will finally return by Thursday. The weekend looks fairly nice with mild temperatures and a mix of sun and clouds.
