Tornado Hits Tamarac, Central Broward
TAMARAC, Fla. (CBS4) - A tornado spawned as severe thunderstorms roared through Broward County early Tuesday evening, damaging several homes in it's path.
The twister wreaked havoc in Tamarac. The Tamarac Fire Department said there was "a lot of damage in the area."
Resident Lea Baldwin was home when the tornado hit her neighborhood. She could get no further than the kitchen before dropping to the floor for safety.
Baldwin says her handicapped daughter was in the only bedroom that wasn't damaged.
"That's the almighty," cried Baldwin. "He kept her. He kept her. He kept her. If you see, it's only right there. It stopped right there! My baby was there."
The tornado slowly dropped from the sky as tornado warnings went up at 5:19 p.m. The twister reportedly touched down near University Drive and McNab Road in central Broward County, according to the National Weather Service.
As destructive as the twister was, no serious injuries were reported in the area.
The storm also knocked out power to hundreds of customers in Broward County. Tuesday night, around 1,900 people were without power in Broward, with many of them in Tamarac. An additional 799 people were without power in Miami-Dade due to storms.
