Top Spots In South Florida To Take Family Photos

When done wrong, family photos can live in infamy on comical websites like Buzzfeed and forever shame you decades after it was taken with its overt cheesiness. Save face by taking a family photo that everyone will think is cool. Travel to the beach, find an artistic backdrop or stand in front of an architectural marvel. South Florida has so many great photo-friendly locales that it can be impossible to choose where the best spot should be. So narrow down your selection by trying one or all of the following hotspots for family photos and never live in fear of it coming back to haunt you 10 years later.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens
3251 S. Miami Ave.
Miami, FL 33129
(305) 250-9133

Museums in general are a great educational experience but they can also provide a great photo opportunity, especially if that museum is a mega mansion and gardens formerly owned by South Florida industrialist James Deering. Take a walk among lush greenery traced by stone steps and find yourself in the Fountain Garden. This area is decorated with large topiaries, a fountain in the foreground and adorned with white stone steps flanked by fertile green grass. The result is a family photo that looks like it belongs on the cover of a European design magazine rather than a Miami locale.

Hollywood Beach
Between Hollywood Blvd. and Sheridan St.
Hollywood, FL 33020
(954) 924-2980
www.visithollywoodfl.org

Hollywood Beach is the definition of family fun. It has tons of activities like bike riding, skateboarding and even kooky contraptions like the segway and the trike. Rent a family bike that can fit five to seven people and have a stranger take your picture. Don't be in it simultaneously because that would be cheesy. Instead, use it as a prop and have your family positioned all around it doing their own unique pose. The bike will create levels and add height to your picture and you'll still get a shot of the aqua ocean in the background. In the end, you'll have a family photo that will remind you of the good times.

South Beach
Ocean Drive
Miami Beach, FL 33139
(305) 673-7000
www.miamibeachfl.gov

Photo opportunities abound in South Beach. Walk along Washington and Collins Avenue and take casual photos of your family in front of shopping destinations like Armani Exchange or walking the smoothly sanded beach. The money shot is at sunset when the peach and pink sun rays light the background and the strip's neon lights illuminate the foreground. If your family stands directly across the street and takes a picture of that, you'll have the quintessential Miami family photo.

Wynwood Walls
2528 NW 2nd Ave.
Miami, FL 33127
(305) 531-4411

The Design District is normally not a place for kids. Its bohemian vibe attracts artists and hipsters alike and it's definitely not the place to bring your children after dark. However, the daytime offers a look at what might be the coolest family photo you'll ever take. The Wynwood Walls are a collection of graffiti-laced walls and doors that offer pictures of everything from street art to anime-inspired creations. It's not an idea for the faint hearted, but if your family rocks an alternative vibe, then this is the perfect family photo for you.

Coral Castle Museum
28655 S. Dixie Highway
Homestead, FL 33033
(305) 248-6345
www.coralcastle.com

No one can pass up the opportunity to take a picture in a castle. The Coral Castle is the most unique castle ever created being that it's not actually a castle but a sculpture garden carved entirely out of coral rock. The main attraction is the mysterious and still unknown nature of its creation by former owner Ed Leedskalnin, but you'll love it because there is no other place where you can be surrounded by rock formations like this. Pick a sculpture to fit your family's personality and have a positively medieval photo to show your friends.
