Top Performers From Miami's Win Over The Jets

It wasn't pretty, but the Miami Dolphins left New York with exactly what they came for; a win over the Jets. Sure, they trailed for most of the night and didn't take their first lead until there was under two minutes left in the game, but this was a game that in past years the Dolphins would've lost.  Miami had a very subpar first half but made the proper halftime adjustments to give themselves a chance to win.

With the victory, the Dolphins are now tied with five other teams in the AFC at 7-5 but hold the tiebreakers thanks to conference record and strength of schedule.  Miami now enters a crucial two week stretch in which they play against very tough opponents who are still battling for playoff position in the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots.  Before we move on from Week 13, let's take a look at the Dolphins top performers in their Monday night win over the Jets.

Jarvis Landry

The Dolphins rookie continues to impress week after week.  Against the Jets Landry came away with a career-high eight receptions for 68 yards, continuing to give Ryan Tannehill an extremely reliable target wherever the young wideout may be on the field.  Landry now has 57 catches on the season, racking up 518 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

Jelani Jenkins

Easily Miami's most improved player from a season ago, Jenkins added to his team leading total by making 16 tackles against the Jets on Monday.  Two of his tackles were for a loss of yards and he also had a quarterback hit.  Jenkins now has 95 tackles on the season which ranks him 11th in the NFL thus far.

Special Teams

One of the reasons that the Dolphins found themselves in a position to win the game in the fourth quarter was due to the play of their special teams.  Brandon Fields had several booming punts, the longest of which traveled 60 yards.  He pinned the Jets inside their own 20 yard line twice and averaged 54.0 yards on his four punts.  Miami also came away with a blocked punt thanks to Dion Jordan, and Caleb Sturgis made up for his first quarter 43 yard miss by making his next three field goals, from 43, 44 and 26 yards respectively.

Dion Sims

Filling in for an injured Charles Clay for the second consecutive week, Sims made his biggest impact on the game when it mattered most.  Two of his four catches came on the Dolphins final drive of the night, with the biggest coming on a 3rd and 7 from the Jets 31 yard line.  Sims' 17 yard catch and run set up Miami for the eventual game-winning 26 yard field goal.

Reshad Jones

Miami's secondary wasn't tested much in the passing game but did well when called upon.  Not only did Jones seal the win for the Dolphins by intercepting Geno Smith with under a minute left in the game, but he also finished the night with 11 tackles, including two for a loss, and had a pass defended as well.
