DAYTONA BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) — A Daytona Beach mother was severely injured, her baby died, after they were struck by a car.
Daytona Beach police tell media outlets that 85-year-old Ray Beams was driving Monday when he struck a SUV, crossed over a median and drove onto a sidewalk, striking 24-year-old Christian Sims, who was pushing her 21-month old the baby in a stroller.
Sims and her daughter, Iris Barnes, were dragged under the car before it crashed into a tree.
The woman and the toddler were taken to the hospital, where the child died. Sims' injures were described as serious.
Beams, who police say was reported missing and endangered in Port Orange, and the SUV driver, 63-year-old Shirley Wilson, were also injured.
