Tigers Knock Out Marlins, 6-1
JUPITER, Fla. (CBS4) - A split-squad of the Florida Marlins was no match for the Detroit Tigers Thursday. The Tigers used solid pitching and a three-run homer to blow open the game against the Marlins on their way to a 6-1 victory.
Brandon Inge hit a three-run homer and Justin Verlander pitched four innings Thursday night to help the Tigers.
Inge, making a rare appearance in the cleanup spot, had two hits. Verlander (2-0) gave up a run for the first time in three spring training starts but struck out four and walked none.
Scott Sizemore drove in two runs for the Tigers. Hanley Ramirez tripled off Verlander and scored the Marlins' run on a ground-out.
Sean West (0-1), pitching for the first time in spring training, went the first two innings and allowed two runs.
Five Detroit relievers pitched one scoreless inning apiece.
