Tide Knocks Canes Out Of NIT
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (CBS4) - Sooner or later, the University of Miami will learn that when it comes to the major sports of football and men's basketball, they can't compete with the University of Alabama.
This was proven again Wednesday night when the Tide knocked "the U" out of the NIT, 79-64.
The Hurricanes couldn't stop beating themselves last night on their way to turning the ball over 19 times in the face of Alabama's defense. Miami trailed in the game by as many as 18 points.
The Canes tried to close the gap at the beginning of the second half when they cut the Tide's lead to just four points, according to CBS4.com news partner the Miami Herald.
But, then the Tide answered with a 10-2 run that put them up by 9 halfway through the second half.
After that, the Hurricanes turned into an afternoon breeze the Tide ran through with ease.
Durand Scott led the Hurricanes with 19 points. Alabama's Trevor Releford scored 22 points, while 3 other Tide players were also in double figures.
Going into the game, Miami only averaged 13.7 turnovers per game. But, according to the Herald, Miami had more turnovers in the first seven minutes of the game than it did in the first two NIT games.
Of course the first two NIT games were against Florida Atlantic and Missouri State.
"We didn't come out ready to play," Scott told the Herald. "They delivered the first blow, and I think that put us back on our heels and made us realize the type of team they [were]."
