Thursday Events To Cause Traffic Mayhem
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – If South Floridians had to save all of their road patience and etiquette for one day, it would be Thursday.
With President Barack Obama in town, Cavalia's "Odysseo" horses hurtling into Bicentennial Park, the Heat taking on the "Linsanity" Knicks downtown and the kick-off of the South Beach Food and Wine Festival all happening in one day, drivers in Miami and Miami Beach should expect one thing: bumper-to-bumper traffic.
President Obama will speak at the University of Miami and attended a fundraiser at the Biltmore Hotel on Thursday afternoon. Traffic delays and back ups are expected in Coral Gables, Pinecrest and on the roads to and from the Miami International Airport through the early evening.
Since it is unknown which route Obama will take, expect road blockages and congestion throughout I-95, S.R. 836 and U.S. 1.
Drivers should anticipate horses and roadblocks along Biscayne Blvd at 1 p.m. as the 74 equine stars of Cavalia's production "Odysseo" will gallop to Bicentennial Park. Odysseo will make its Miami premiere on February 29th.
Thursday evening it will be "Linsanity" at the American Airlines Arena when the Miami Heat take on Jeremy Lin and the New York Knicks. If you are going to attend the 7 p.m. game, make plans to leave early before the game and be prepared to be stuck in traffic on the way home.
The SOBE Food and Wine Festival also kicks-off Thursday night at the Delano Hotel near Lincoln Road. Word to the wise, avoid Collins Ave. and South Beach if you can.
