One Teen Dead, Two Others Critical After Being Struck By Car

HIALEAH (CBS4) - A group of four teens walking home from school were struck by an out of control car, killing one teen and critically injuring two others, before finally coming to a final stop in a Hialeah home.

The teenagers were on the sidewalk in front of the home on West 1st Avenue and West 9th Street just after 3 p.m. Thursday. Police say the victims attend nearby Miami Springs Senior High School.

Hialeah Fire spokesperson Eddie Rodriguez said the driver, Jose Milo, 42, struck the two males and two females. Two of the victim's injuries were so severe they were airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. One of the teens later died.

The two other victims were taken by ground transport to the  hospital. Milo and his passenger, Sofia Milo, 65, were also taken to the hospital.

Police say a medical problem caused the driver to lose control. It is unknown what the medical condition is and if the driver ever lost consciousness.

Another student that was walking with the group told CBS4 News that he saw the driver coming their way, but couldn't alert his friends fast enough to avoid being hit.
