Teen Arrested In Shooting Near Miami Gardens School
MIAMI GARDENS (CBS4) – An off campus fight in Miami Gardens ended with three people being shot and the arrest of a teen who reportedly confessed to pulling the trigger.
The teen has been charged with three count of aggravated battery.
Miami-Dade School district spokesman John Schuster said at least two of the teens, a boy and girl, are students at Miami Carol City Senior High in the 3400 block of NW 187th Street. The shooting happened at 2:40 p.m., approximately 10 minutes after the school day concluded, blocks away from the school at 32nd Avenue and 183rd Street.
Miami Gardens police said their officers in the area heard the shots. After reviewing security video, a firearm was found and a teen was taken into custody. It is unclear if the teen is a student at the high school or what his motive was.
Schuster said the injured students were innocent bystanders.
Witness Trav said he was concerned for his safety.
"I was here. They started shooting and I went like this," Trav showing that he ducked for cover. "I don't want to get shot."
Christian Valdes, a local barber, said, "Half of them threw themselves down to the floor while the shots were being fired and the other half started running back to the school."
Police believe all of the injured victims are between 14 and 19-years-old.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue has not released the names of those shot or the extent of their injuries.
