Three People Dead After Car Plunges Into Tallahassee Lake

TALLAHASSEE (AP) — Three people died after a car they were riding in plunged into Lake Talquin just west of Tallahassee early Sunday morning, authorities said. One person was rescued.
A 2013 Toyota Camry was seen traveling on Coe Landing Road at a high rate of speed before it plunged at around 1:15 a.m. Sunday, according to Leon County public information officer Lt. Grady Jordan. The road they were traveling on dead-ends at a boat ramp.
Three bodies were recovered from the water and the survivor was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Three witnesses helped pull the survivor out of the water, Jordan said.
"The individuals in the car were not familiar with the area, Jordan said. "I don't know exactly where they were going but they thought the road they were on continued on and it didn't. They just weren't familiar with the area and drove into the lake. It all appears to be accidental at this point."
Jordan said he could not say for certain whether or not the car was speeding but according to witness accounts, the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed. Jordan said there are signs alerting drivers that a boat ramp is coming up but that the driver may not have seen the signs because of the time of night and also the rate of speed.
"I'm not sure what was going on in the car but they were traveling at a pretty high rate of speed so they might not have seen the signs that they were approaching the lake," he said.
