Three-Day Red Snapper Season This Weekend
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) - For three years, fishermen in the Southeast have had to catch and release any red snappers. But for the next three days, the moratorium on catching the fish has been lifted.
In Florida, the Carolinas and Georgia, fishermen are granted permission to catch red snapper from Friday through Sunday.
Biologists will be checking the fish caught to gather information about the size and sex of the fish to better determine next year's red snapper populations.
The moratorium on catching red snapper was instituted in waters off the four states back in 2010 because of concerns they were being overfished.
