Four Bodies Found Off Hollywood Beach

HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) -- Four bodies found floating in the water off Hollywood Beach on Sunday morning triggered a search for anymore possible people in distress.

Coast Guard crews said good Samaritans called them around 10:00 a.m. letting them know they found the bodies of two men floating in the water 20 nautical miles east of Hollywood Beach.

"Once the Station Fort Lauderdale crew arrived on scene, we got a report from a second good Samaritan that a second body had been located," said Chief Petty Officer Ryan Doss with the U.S. Coast Guard.

Crews responded to the area and found two additional bodies 15-20 miles off Hollywood Beach.  Late Sunday night, officials said the bodies were all those of men. None were wearing life jackets.

Authorities had also hoped debris floating near the bodies could shed some light on their identities, but rescuers determined the debris was trash and not linked to the bodies.

"We have not been able to locate a vessel of any type out there so we're unsure of where these individuals came from or how long they'd been out there," added Chief Petty Officer Doss.

It's not clear whether the men were migrants.

A Coast Guard search on the water will continue Sunday night and Monday morning. An air search will resume Monday to search for any additional bodies.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is assisting in the investigation.
