Threat Of Severe Storms Throughout The Day
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Tuesday got off to a stormy start across portions of South Florida with downed trees, hail and severe winds gusting to 60 miles per hour in southern Miami-Dade.
CBS4 meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez said deep tropical moisture moving in from the Gulf of Mexico led to torrential downpours and dangerous lightning in spots.
Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for southeast and central Miami-Dade due to the potentially dangerous conditions and severe weather. Those warnings have since expired. However, throughout the day we will continue to see the threat for strong to severe storms with the potential for torrential downpours, damaging wind gusts, lightning, large hail and the slight chance of a tornado and water spouts.
With a southwesterly steering flow aloft and winds out of the south at the surface, Gonzalez said we could see some rotation with some of the storms that develop. With plenty of moisture in place through Friday, the atmosphere will remain unsettled and the storm chance remains high.
This weekend as the winds shift more out of the east and southeast, the rain chance will decrease and we may see some spotty storms with highs in the upper 80s.
