Thieves Ransack Margate Spa
MARGATE (CBS4) - The owner of a Margate spa was picking up the pieces after a thief smashed his way into her business early Tuesday morning.
Martha Torres, the owner of Eternity Spa at 179 State Road 7 in Margate, came into work Tuesday to find someone had shattered her glass front door with a rock and her business had been ransacked.
Torres said the thief stole a computer, $300 dollars cash and two television sets.
"Everything is destroyed, when I came in, everything is destroyed. I'm mad, it's terrible," Torres said. "When you come to your business and everything is destroyed it's not easy."
Torres does not have insurance, but she did have security cameras installed inside and outside plus an alarm system. But it did little to deter the thief who is seen with a white shirt covering the top of his head kicking his way into one room, grabbing a bag and making a quick exit.
The time stamp on the surveillance shows he came into the spa at 2:51:06 am and left at 2:52:03 am.
Torres' was the only business hit in the busy plaza just off SR 7 and south of Atlantic Boulevard. The plaza houses an H&R Block tax business, a vein clinic, a shoe store, a laundromat and a restaurant.
Dieurius Andre who runs the restaurant next door says seeing the shards of glass has made him safety conscious.
"Of course I'm worried about it," Andre said. "Because I've got a lot of money in here too."
Torres has been in this location eighteen months and she says it's the first time she's been robbed. She's a single mom who built her business from the ground up and hopes someone recognizes the thief.
