Thieves Burglarize Apartment Of Iraq War Veteran
DAVIE (CBS4) - A South Florida nursing school student, who did two tours in Iraq in the service of this country, is asking for the public's help in finding the crooks who broke into his apartment.
Teon Ameer said he was stunned when he got home Wednesday night after a long day of classes to found that he had been robbed.
"I had a 50 inch LG television, (which) I had a couple of years, that was hanging up here," he told CBS4's Ted Scouten as he pointed toward a wall. "And I had a, my son had a, Nintendo Wii sitting right here."
Ameer said crooks broke in during broad daylight and snatched two TVs, a couple gaming systems, $12 hundred in rent money and his laptop which he used for nursing school.
"I had this MacBook air which I bought for $12 hundred for my school work. They took that with all my school information, so I have to start from scratch with all my school work," said Ameer.
Ameer moved to Davie last year to go Nova Southeastern University's nursing school. In the Army he was a medic; now he's a husband, father, student and hospital employee who thought he had left the tough days behind him when he left Iraq.
"It's kind of disheartening because I figured if something's going to happen to me, it's not going to happen to me back in the states," said Ameer.
Ameer said while he is angry and upset about what happened, his mother is absolutely furious.
"For someone to do this to him after serving his country, helping everyone that he can," said Stephlyn Hinds, " and now this to happen to him, it's devastating"
Ameer is hoping that someone may have seen those responsible walking out of his apartment carrying televisions and electronics.
