Thief Uses A/C Ducts To Break Into Lauderdale Lakes Store
LAUDERDALE LAKES (CBS4) - Locked windows and doors weren't about to stop a determined thief in Lauderdale Lakes who had their sights on breaking into a Family Dollar Store.
According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, around 2 a.m. they sent out a deputy to check an alarm call at the store located on State Road 7. The deputy found the store's doors and windows locked and secured.
A short time later they found that someone had broken into the store by going through the air condition ducts located on the roof.
CBS4 reporter Joan Murray said a 14-year old who showed up on Wednesday and told deputies he had left his bag in the store was taken in for questioning. He was arrested Wednesday afternoon; no word on charges.
"This is crazy stuff," said store manager Saul Arthelmy. "I can't tell you if they too anything, I can't see it."
The sheriff's office has not said what, if anything, was taken during the break in.
A camera in front of the store captured a masked man casing the store before the break-in.
The entire incident left customers puzzled.
"Family Dollar? I mean what can you steal?," asked customer Vincere King. "I guess it's desperate times, but it's not the way."
