Testimony Continues In Alleged "Romeo Rapist" Trial
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - The jury for the so-called 'Romeo rapist' heard his version of events Thursday in a Broward courtroom.
Andre Beadle is on trial for raping a woman he met at a downtown Ft. Lauderdale Publix where he was working as a security guard back in June 2011.
The woman testified Wednesday that Beadle approached her for a date while she was shopping for baby formula.
Once at his apartment, she said he attacked her.
She reported the assault to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
On Thursday, prosecutors had another accuser testify against Beadle. Prosecutors had argued before a judge on Wednesday to allow her testimony and Judge Matthew Destry agreed it was admissible.
The second victim said she met Beadle at a park in July 2011 and he invited her to dinner at his apartment.
She said when she went there she noticed there was no furniture in his living room and that she and her three year old daughter had to sit on his bed.
Then she says Beadle put the comforter over her head and raped her with her daughter in the room.
"He's on top of me and he's heavy and he has his hands on my neck. He was saying that being in the army you can make people disappear and when you kill you get aroused," the woman told the jury.
When Beadle's defense attorney questioned her credibility the woman shot back, "I didn't just have sex with him, he raped me."
After the first victim went to authorities, a detective interviewed Beadle on tape.
He denied he raped the woman and said she phoned him and told him, "Unless you want to lose that little job that you have and go to jail, I need a thousand dollars."
But investigators had been present when the alleged victim made the phone calls to Beadle and there had been no mention of money.
Later in a videotaped interrogation Beadle again denied attacking the woman.
"I swear to God I didn't rape her," he said.
But the detective questions his credibility.
"First you tell me one thing and then another. I have to wonder which one is the lie," said the unidentified detective
The trial will resume next Wednesday.
