Terrorism Charges Dropped Against Former Miami Cabbie
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) – A former Miami cabbie who was accused along with his father and brother of orchestrating financial support for the Taliban in Pakistan is in the clear.
Last week the U.S. Attorneys Office in Miami dropped all charges against Irfan Khan who was detained behind bars for nearly a year before obtaining bail in April, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.
His 76-year old father Hafiz Khan, an imam at a Miami mosque, his 24-year old son Izhar who is a cleric at a Margate mosque are still accused of wiring at least $50,000 to the Pakistani Taliban. Three other people, including a daughter and grandson of the elder Khan who are in Pakistan, have also been charged.
Khan and his son face four terrorism support charges that each carry potential 15-year prison sentences. They have pleaded not guilty.
