Coral Springs Police Say Quick-Thinking Helped Catch Car Burglars

CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) -- Coral Springs Police are crediting a quick-thinking resident with helping them catch a couple of car burglars.

At 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, they say a resident in the 12200 block of 2nd Street called 911 when he saw three suspicious men lurking near cars.

A patrolman then spotted a suspicious car traveling West on Atlantic Boulevard and pulled the driver over just East of the Sawgrass Expressway. He ran and was caught.

Police took another juvenile in the passenger seat into custody. The teenagers told investigators they had broken into 30 vehicles. They said Coral Springs is a "nice city, with nice cars and people leave things unlocked," that is why they came from Miami to criminalize our community.

They also mentioned they often sell what they steal on the website "Let Go."

"The cops came to the door and said one of the car doors was open," Shane Marr said.

Marr says thieves tried to steal from his car on 2nd Street a few weeks back but he had taken his valuables out.

"I would have had my glasses, headphones and maybe my wallet," said Marr.

Police said they recovered stolen property from the arrested teenagers and are now trying to return those stolen items to the rightful owners.

"It is a problem in this area. We are near the highway and it's easy to get on and off real quick," said Coral Springs resident Roger Krahl.

Since his Coral Springs house was burglarized, Krahl said he keeps everything locked tight.

"Keep your car closed. Don't leave valuables, even backpacks. People have to be smart," Krahl said
