Teens On Trial For Double Murder, Including Baby
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Two teens are on trial in Miami accused of a double murder that included the death of a 10-month old baby who was sitting on his father's lap at the time of the shooting.
Defendants Jimmie Bowen and Bernard Jones were 16 and 17 years old at the time of the Dec. 13th, 2008 killings.
According to prosecutors, Bowen and Jones were in a feud with a rival gang when they targeted Pierre Roche, 27, while he was playing dominoes outside a Liberty City home.
A friend of Roche, Derrick Days was also playing while he held his 10-month old son, Derrick Jr. on his lap.
When a masked gunman opened fire, Days tried to shield his son but the baby was struck and killed.
Roche was also hit and died two days later at the hospital.
A third man, Christopher Smith, suffered a shoulder wound.
Prosecutors say Bowen is the gunman and Jones drove the getaway vehicle.
Bowen is charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Jones is charged with two counts of felony murder.
